Appliance Repair in Hollywood & Ravenel — Wells, Propane, and the Southwest Run

Twenty to twenty-five minutes down Highway 17 South and out 162: acreage lots, farm roads, Stono Ferry’s golf-course streets and the newer subdivisions filling in along the highway. A different water, a different fuel, and a scheduled run to match.

The Southwest Run

Hollywood and Ravenel are the rural end of the map, and Reid runs them as a planned leg — the 162 corridor and Hollywood proper together, the 17 South stretch and Ravenel together, Stono Ferry as its own stop — so a quoted window survives the distance and the driveways. Dispatch asks on the intake call about the things acreage adds: gate codes, a quarter-mile drive, a laundry in a detached building, a dog in the yard. Warm-box calls jump the queue to the first opening regardless.

Well Water Flips the Findings

Almost everything out here draws from a private well, and well water runs hard and carries iron and often sulfur. That flips the walk-through: film on glassware is minerals rather than detergent; ice makers scale up years early and taste of the well; washers crust their inlet screens and flood their dispensers; a bad taste in the ice belongs to the treatment system, not the refrigerator. The house file records the water each kitchen is on, and the ticket says honestly when a filter change or a softener refill is the whole fix.

Propane, Power Blinks, and the Older Machines

Natural gas does not reach most of 29449 and 29470, so ranges and dryers run on propane, and a machine that arrived jetted for natural gas burns yellow and lights late until it is converted — a one-visit job Reid does weekly on this run. Rural power blinks more often than the city’s, and boards stuck in a half-state after a storm get a proper reset before anything is quoted. The older farmhouses and the ranches along 162 still run the analog veterans — top-loaders on original gearcases, single-thermostat refrigerators — and a fifty-dollar part usually earns them another decade; Stono Ferry and the newer highway subdivisions run builder packages aging by the street, with HOA boards that want findings in writing.

From the southwest run calls

Three Things Hollywood Asks

Do you come out to Ravenel from West Ashley?

Yes, on a scheduled southwest run down 17 South and 162 — batched by road so the window quoted is the window kept. Edisto and Meggett are past the line, and dispatch says so.

Our well-water dishwasher films everything.

Minerals and iron, not detergent. A filter and rinse-aid change fixes what a new pump could not, and the house file notes the water the kitchen is on.

The propane dryer lights late and burns orange.

Jetted for natural gas, most likely. The orifice and pressure are changed over and the flame checked; the tank and regulator stay with your propane supplier.
